A Pastor Who Details Cars

My name is Aaron Huffman. I'm a pastor here in the Louisville area, and I detail cars. People usually pause at that combination, so let me explain it.

I came to detailing the way a lot of people do — by caring more about it than made sense, and then learning to do it properly. Somewhere along the way it stopped being a hobby.

Paul made tents. I detail cars. Working a trade alongside the pulpit keeps me near ordinary people in ordinary weeks, and that has made me a better pastor, not a distracted one.

Where the name came from

Psalm 51 is David's prayer after he'd wrecked his life. Verse 12 asks God to restore the joy of his salvation. Not to hand him something new — to give back what he had thrown away. That's the word I kept coming back to. Restored.

Almost every vehicle I work on has been neglected in some way. Somebody meant to get to it. Life happened. Now they're a little embarrassed when a coworker rides along. And a few hours later they see it clean and there's this look on their face — relief more than excitement. Something they'd written off came back to them. It's a small picture of a much bigger thing, and I'm content with it being small.

How I work

Colossians 3:23 says to do your work heartily, as unto the Lord and not unto men. In practice that's unglamorous. It means cleaning the seat tracks nobody inspects. It means telling you before you pay that a scratch is too deep to polish out, so you aren't disappointed after. It means publishing my prices instead of making you call to find out whether you can afford me.

It also means I'll talk you out of things. If a ceramic coating doesn't fit how you use the vehicle, I'll tell you to buy a sealant and keep the difference. That costs me money and buys something I'd rather have.

I don't have a shop, so I come to you — your driveway, your office lot, or your church parking lot. I do need water and electric available on-site. I don't charge a travel fee inside my service area. And I do a walk-around with you before I leave — if something isn't right, we fix it right then. If you spot something later, call within 48 hours and I'll come back.

Why we're closed Sundays

Sunday is the best detailing day of the week and every detailer knows it. It's also the day I'm with my church, and that isn't up for negotiation. If Sunday is the only day that works for you, tell me — a Saturday evening slot will usually get it done.

You will never get a sermon from me in a driveway. Hire me and you're getting a detailer. But if you ever want to talk about the verse on my logo, I'm easy to find.
