An exterior detail is not a car wash. A tunnel wash drags the same dirty brushes across your paint that it dragged across the truck ahead of you. We foam the vehicle first so the grit lifts before anything touches it, then wash by hand with two buckets and clean media.
After the wash we decontaminate. Iron fallout from brake dust, tar from I-65, and tree sap all bond to the clear coat and stay there through ordinary washing. Chemical decon plus a clay bar removes what soap leaves behind, and the paint feels like glass afterward.
